"With the enhancements to MySQL Enterprise Monitor and MySQL Enterprise Backup, along with streamlined, global support, DBAs and developers can speed their MySQL deployments while reducing total cost of ownership," Tomas Ulin, vice president of engineering at Oracle, said in a statement. The update also tweaks the existing Enterprise Monitor tool to include new rules and graphs that allow for easier monitoring of key systems for real-time and historical trending purposes, Oracle said.
The new Workbench tool acts as a central repository for data modelling, SQL development and administration features. MySQL Backup allows users to backup MySQL databases on a full, partial or incremental basis, as well as supporting Point-in-Time recovery and backup compression. The update introduces MySQL Enterprise Backup and MySQL Workbench to the enterprise subscription service, meaning that it now includes monitoring, backup and design tools, as well as round-the-clock support. An update to MySQL 5.5 that brings new tools and updates existing features is now available for MySQL Enterprise edition customers, the company said on Tuesday.
